6 Essentials for In-Flight Comfort

A+ A- A

Man flyingThe miracle of modern aviation is undeniable and the benefits of commercial air travel are obvious. It is incredible that we can now travel from New York City to Los Angeles in less than 5 hours. The only downside is that you have to be crammed into a small airline seat for 5 straight hours. Even though long airline flights have a bad reputation for being extremely uncomfortable, there are some items that you can bring along that will greatly improve your experience and make your next long flight more bearable.

6 Essentials for In-Flight Comfort

Below are 6 essentials to make long airline flights more comfortable:

  • Snacks - Just like any long trip, you’ll want to have plenty of snacks on hand. Some great options include nuts, carrots, apple slices, crackers or jerky. These snacks won’t need to be refrigerated and will fit perfectly in your carry-on. Even though you might be served a drink and snacks as part of your flight, you will want extra to make sure you don’t get hungry.
  • Refillable Water Bottle - Having a water bottle that you can refill after security check and during the flight will be a life saver. There is not much worse than being thirsty during a long trip.
  • Earplugs - Because the airplane cabin is relatively small and packed full of people you can hear everything. From loud engines to crying babies, there are a lot of sounds onboard an airplane that can be distracting and will make it hard to sleep.
  • Sweatshirt - Airplane cabins are notorious for being very cold. Not only can a sweatshirt help you stay warm, but it can also be used to shield your eyes from the bright lights if you are trying to catch some shut eye.
  • Hand Lotion - While water will help you stay hydrated, on longer flights it is recommended to have some lotion on hand. This can help prevent itchy, dry skin that is common in pressurized cabins.
  • Noise Canceling Headphones - You will want to bring along some entertainment for the long flight. However, if you can’t hear your favorite song, it won’t help pass the time. A good pair of headphones with active noise cancellation will help block out the unwanted noise and keep you focused on the in-flight movie.
