Aviation Films All Pilots Should Watch

We all need a little inspiration when it comes to our lives and careers. Inspiration can come from social media, reading articles or books, and from watching movies! There are no shortage of aviation films from which pilots can glean information, inspiration, and knowledge.

Below are a few of the top aviation films that all pilots should watch. And even if you’re not a pilot, watching these movies just might have an influence on your future career choices.

• Amelia – Amelia is a film about Amelia Earhart who may be the most well-known female pilot ever. Her story is a fascinating, inspiring, and tragic one.
• Top Gun – Top Gun is a film about naval aviators who are given the opportunity to train at the Navy’s fighter weapons school.
• One Six Right – This is a documentary that every pilot should watch. It may look benign at first, but it will capture your attention and keep it all the way to the end.
• Airplane! – Airplane! Is a classic comedy set on an airplane. It’s a satirical disaster film, parodying the disaster film genre. It includes lots of puns and slapstick comedy.  
• Sully – This film is a true story based on the events surrounding U.S. Airways Flight 1549 in 2009. These circumstances have been called the “miracle on the Hudson.”
• Pearl Harbor – Pearl Harbor is based on the events of December 7, 1941 when the Japanese bombed the naval base called Pearl Harbor. It’s a historically accurate love story with no shortage of awesome fight scenes.
• The Aviator – The aviator is an autobiographical film about Howard Hughes, the eccentric pilot and director.
• Snakes on a Plane – If you have a snake phobia, we suggest staying away from this film. But it’s an entertaining film that can teach you what to do if you’re ever trapped on an airplane with snakes!
