Understanding Situations Flight Attendants May Experience

Flight attendantFlight attendant have to deal with a number of situations. Their job is to make sure that the passengers’ flight experience is as safe, pleasant, and relaxed as possible. This often means that they’ll need to be prepared to deal with a few tense, bizarre, or sometimes even scary situations.

Possible Situations a Flight Attendant May Experience

Below are just a few common issues flight attendants may face:

  • Managing an unruly passenger – While most passengers are content with simply getting to their location without any issues, other passengers can’t stop themselves from getting drunk, starting fights, or trying to enter restricted areas.
  • Calming a panicked passenger – Some passengers can get anxious or even scared and panicked on airplanes. It’s up to the flight crew to keep passengers calm and put on a happy face. 
  • Providing medical care – Flight attendants are trained to not only handle basic first aid, but also more serious medical care.
  • Helping land a plane – In case of an emergency when a co-pilot is incapacitated or otherwise unable to help the pilot, the flight crew is trained to step up and help land the airplane if necessary.
  • Knowing all emergency protocol – Lastly, in the event of an emergency, flight attendants are always prepared and educated about what needs to be done. They go through survival training and are taught how to handle every imaginable life-or-death scenario there is

Being a flight attendant is an exciting career in aviation that allows them to meet new people and travel to exciting new places! As a pilot you may find the need for a personal flight attendant. Understanding their training, options, and work flow will aid you in working with and around flight attendants.
