COVID & Travel

Small cirrus aircraft on the runway

Although the widespread of vaccinations are promising with regards to ending COVID-19, nothing will happen overnight. With the world slowly getting back on track, you probably can’t wait to feed that travel bag. However, before you plan to do so, find out how the spread of COVID could affect your itinerary, especially the different variants surging worldwide. Here’s everything you need to ensure your safety when traveling during COVID:

How to Stay Safe When You Travel By Air

According to the global COVID guidelines, you must wear a face mask even if you are fully vaccinated. The mask should cover both your nose and mouth and must fit snugly. Viruses are less likely to spread because of how air is filtered or circulated on airplanes. However, the chances of you coming in contact with a virus are relatively high when sitting in a waiting room and walking through air terminals. Although the airport facilities have increased cleaning and disinfecting equipment and surfaces, you should still follow these steps to protect yourself and others when traveling by air:

  • Avoid contact with anyone who is sick.
  • Maintain a distance of 6 feet at all times.
  • Use hand sanitizer and limit contact with frequently touched surfaces such as elevator buttons, handrails, doorknobs, and kiosks.
  • Avoid touching your nose, mouth, and eyes.
  • Make sure to cover your face using your elbow when coughing or sneezing.
  • Wear a face mask during screening. However, when asked for identification, adjust the mask accordingly.
  • Clean or wash your hands as often as possible.
  • Refrain from drinking or eating in a public area or transportation. When carrying food items, place them in a plastic bag.
  • Place your wallet, phone, and keys inside your carry-on bag during screening instead of bins.
  • Every traveler should have a 350-milliliter sanitizer inside their carry-on bag.
  • Ensure to wash your hands with water and soap at least 20 seconds before and after the screening.
